Nerve growth factor (NGF) is a protein secreted by the target of a neuron that stimulates the growth and differentiation of the sympathetic and certain sensory nerves. It consists of 3 subunits, alpha, beta and gamma, with the beta subunit having sole responsible for nerve and growth stimulating activity.
