CD107a, otherwise known as LAMP-1 (lysosome-associated membrane protein-1), is a 100-120kD type I integral lysosomal membrane glycoprotein and member of the LAMP family, which transfers between lysosomes, phagosomes and the plasma membrane, and may play a role in lysosomal membrane protection and in lectin-mediated cell adhesion. Studies have linked enhanced CD107a expression with the metastatic potential of some tumor cells, and with neurons and glial cells surrounding plaques in Alzheimer’s patients.
