HSL (hormone-sensitive lipase), a cytosolic neutral lipase regulated by reversible phosphorylation, catalyzes the rate limiting step in triglyceride lipolysis. HSL hydrolyzes stored triglycerides to free fatty acids in adipose and heart tissues.
