Aclonifen: A Diphenylether Herbicide with Inhibition of Chlorophyll and Carotenoid Synthesis
Aclonifen is a diphenylether herbicide used in pre-emergence of the crops for the control of annual broad leaved weeds and some grassy weeds. In contrast with other herbicides of the diphenylether herbicide, aclonifen is not only acting through a phytotoxic protoporphyrin IX (PPIX, an intermediate in chlorophyll biosynthesis) accumulation but also through an inhibition of carotenoid (an essential component of photosynthetic organisms) biosynthesis.
