Piper-longumine

Piperlongumine is an alkaloid that has been found in P. longum and has anticancer and antioxidant activities. It binds to glutathione (GSH) and inhibits the protein-protein interaction between glutathione and glutathione S-transferase pi 1 (GSTP1), an enzyme that is often overexpressed in cancer cells. Piperlongumine reduces the viability of A549 and NCI H460 cells (IC50s = 14.91 and 13.72 µM, respectively).
