MTMR1 is a member of the myotubularin related family of proteins. Members of this family contain the consensus sequence for the active site of protein tyrosine phosphatases. It has been suggested that MTMR1 plays a role in muscle formation and may represent a novel target for abnormal mRNA splicing in myotonic dystrophy.
