CD7, a 40kD transmembrane glycoprotein, is a novel member of Ig superfamily expressed primarily on thymocytes and mature T-cells. It consists of a extracellullar region with Ig-like domains, a transmembrane region and cytoplasmic tail. It functions as a co-stimulatory molecule regulating the function and development of T-cells and NK cells. It plays a significant role in T-cell interactions and also in T-cell/B-cell interactions during early lymphoid development.
