LKB1 is a protein-serine/threonine kinase. Phosphorylates and activates AMP-activated kinase (AMPK), AMPK involved in stress responses, lipid and glucose metabolism. Its mutation pattern in human tumours is very characteristic of a tumour suppressor protein.
