A Mild Reagent for Benzoylation Typical Procedure: 1-Adamantanol (99 mg, 0.65 mmol) is added to a dry round-bottom flask, which has been equipped with a stir bar and rubber septum. After purging with dry nitrogen, dry CH2Cl2 is added to make a 0.1 M solution. Pyridine (245 mg, 3.1 mmol, 4.8 eq.) is added to the reaction vessel, and the solution is cooled to －78 °C. BzOTf (495 mg, 1.95 mmol, 3.0 eq.) is then added via syringe. After proceeding for 30 min at －78 °C, the solution is allowed to warm to ambience, and after 1 h at room temperature, is quenched with MeOH, followed by filtration through Florisil® with CH2Cl2 prior to removal of the solvent at reduced pressure. Purification by preparative TLC gives the product (148 mg, 0.58 mmol, 89%). Recrystallization from methanol gives white needles.
