Grades 912 . With this comprehensive kit, students build and experiment with 3 different types of electromagnets: coiled wire, metal core, and solenoid. Through 6 activities, students see that an electric current creates a magnetic field and learn how to increase the fields strength by changing the length of wire, number of coils, and amount of electric current. Students learn how electromagnets power everyday devices and get to build a simple motor and even their own working audio speaker. Materials are sufficient for 32 students working in 8 groups. Includes instructions and free 1-year access...

Nice labs - they actually all work!

Used these labs for a physics class, and they were pretty decent. The compasses are super cheap and junky, but the D-cell battery holder makes up for it - a real durable and useful item!
The electric motor activity and the sound speaker were the best labs. It wouldve been great to have received the instructional materials in an electronic file/ doc format, however, so I couldve modified the lab protocol/ questions for my own students.
For my uses, I would purchase this laboratory set again.
