Description
Starting with the phenomenon of planarians multiplying by both asexual and sexual reproduction, students make sense of the differences between mitosis and meiosis. In Part 1, chromosome models are used to answer the driving question, "What happens to chromosomes when a cell divides to make a copy of itself?" Chromosome models are developed and evaluated again in Part 2 to answer the meiosis driving question, "How is the chromosome number reduced in sperm and egg cells so when they combine their chromosomes, the new organism has the correct number?" Time Requirement Making sense of mitosis...

Best hands on I have seen for mitosis and meiosis
Joseph M.
LITTLE ROCK, AR
I have had the same kit for years, and as expected, I loose a bead every so often. It takes time to use, but the kids get it better with this manipulative. I use them in correlation with chalk pens on my lab tables and the kids seem to like doing it.

Engaging tool to teach but cheap product
Violette P.
SPOKANE, WA, UNITED STATES
Used at the college level to teach mitosis/meiosis. Had an older version of this product that works great, bought this edition and the magnets are for this kit only. The magnets and beads are not compatible with any other versions of the chromosome kits. The beads are cheaply made and the "male portion" of the beads to stick in the holes tears off after a few uses. Could be a good product, just lower standards.
