I bought these cocoons as a science demo for my children who are 5yo and 7yo. We have had Painted Lady butterflies every year and this year wanted to try something different. The kids really loved seeing such a striking and beautiful moth emerge- it made a huge impression on them and made the learning discussions we had joyful. All 3 cocoons hatched healthy and large moths that we thoroughly enjoyed caring for. I would definitely consider doing this again next year, though the price can be steep comparatively.

We ordered the pack of luna moth cocoons and found it very easy to care for them. Two of the three hatched into female luna moths -- very exciting! We put them in an outdoor cage in hopes of attracting males for mating which did not happen, but we were able to observe the moths laying (infertile) eggs all around their cage. Beautiful creatures, and a very educational experience for our child who was studying moths.
