I recently used this lab in my AP biology class as a way to introduce my students to the topic of Population Dynamics. Students were able to obtain ACCURATE and CONSISTENT measures of cell densities at each of the growth phases! Where this lab diverges from a typical growth phase lab is in the uniquely designed E.coli strains that students get to work with! Two strains serve as controls and 2 strains serve as the "experiments" so students can compare competing genetic programs... a central concept in the study of synthetic biology! The banana scent is easily detectable and the materials needed to conduct the experiment are delivered on time, packed neatly and completely, and labeled for ease of use. The representatives from Carolina are supremely responsive to curricular and instructional constraints, and are committed to delivering products that are of the highest quality as valuable educational resources. I was so pleased with my experience... even more evidence to name Carolina as the best vendor our school district deals with!
